AM I TOO OLD FOR THIS YET?

Once you've hit the ripe age of twenty five, Halloween becomes less about dressing up as a slutty fictional character and more about dressing warm enough for the chilly weather... it becomes less about trying to find the busiest bars and more about avoiding annoying broads and hitting up dive bars like Burke's. Okay, maybe it's just me. But at least I was in good company.

Maddie and I ended up going as conjoined twins, Sadie and Katie. We Velcroed ourselves together at the hip and wore the same outfit and a giant scarf. We were a big hit, literally. Drew was a mime and I hated it because he was terrifying and his face was shiny all night. And also, black lips are not for kissing. He was shockingly good at miming. I feel like it wasn't his first time. Tara was a thief who could have doubled as a raccoon with a large bag of stolen goodies. Kylie dressed up as the "Easy" button from Staples, which was sort of ironic, because, well...

The night started out with a rooftop party at some hip lofts downtown. Lots of gay men. I feel like I should surround myself with gay men more often because they are FABULOUS, extremely good looking, and a hell of a good time. The Best Costume Award went to the guy who dressed up as Honey Boo Boo. And, boy, did he play the part well. There was also a couple dressed as Gotye and Kimbra, which I feel was probably a popular costume among the masses this year, but brilliant nonetheless.

After a couple of hours of tippy cup and dancing, we headed off to Benson. We ended up at a dive bar called Burke's, which was a nice turn of events. They have some kind of apple pie shots that taste like straight up Heaven. Had I not been driving, I probably would have ordered just a tall glass of said shot, warmed, with a cinnamon stick.

Drew's parents took us out for a lovely breakfast this morning at Leo's Diner and now I'm watching Minus the Bear soundcheck for their show with Cursive tonight at The Slowdown. I've got it pretty good, I think.

-k.
